Seasonal Goose Egg
The single Cornish free range goose egg pack was introduced in the spring of 2007, it is held in its own special, snug box and is a lovely alternative to a Easter egg. The Goose egg is also only available from March to July as this is when they are in lay.
This seasonal pack is available from Selected Budgens, and Waitrose stores, Selfridges, Harrods and Wholefoods stores from mid April. Clarence Court only produce these eggs when the birds are in their laying season.
Clarence Court supply eggs from a breed of geese known as the Embden, according to records this breed is only around 200 years old. Its origins are thought to be from Northern Europe, in Holland and Germany. The eminent authority, Lewis Wright, was of the opinion that they originated from the town of Emden in Lower Saxony, Germany, although another source, namely Edward Brown believed that crossing the German White with the English White created the breed. Others suggest that the English Embden's great weight and size was produced by selective breeding with the Toulouse breed, which was then bred out leaving the large size of this breed.
Our geese are pure white with a wonderful light orange, short, bill with matching feet and shanks. They have a long graceful neck and striking blue eyes, all of which goes towards making them a very attractive bird.
The egg itself is roughly twice the size of a duck egg, it has a large ivory white shell and matching large deep yellow yolk. The eggs flavour is slightly milder than a duck egg, but has a more pronounced flavour than that of a hens egg, making it a delight to cook with. Soft boiled or scrambled, shared romantically topped with shaved truffle are also superb ways to enjoy this seasonal egg.
