Black Leghorn Bantam Eggs

Bantam Egg Pack

A bantam is a small breed of a breed of chicken, many standard chicken breeds have a bantam counterpart, sometimes referred to as a miniature. The variety of Bantam that we breed is known as the Black Leghorn, they are one-fifth to one-quarter the size of the standard breed, but they exhibit all of the standard breed's characteristics.

This seasonal pack is available from Selected Budgens, and Waitrose stores, Selfridges, Harrods and Wholefoods stores from mid April. Clarence Court only produce these eggs when the birds are in their laying season.

Due to the size of the bird they naturally lay smaller eggs, it takes two to three Bantam eggs to make up a standard hens egg.

The characteristics of the Bantam egg are also a little different to a Black Leghorn hens' egg as they are much creamier in taste with a denser yolk. As the Bantam egg is half the size of a standard hens egg this gives them a high ratio of yolk to white, which makes them superb for baking.

The Clarence Court bantams live in a small flock in the depths of Cornwall, which are free to range from dusk till dawn on acres of green pastures, as with all Clarence Court birds leading a natural and happy life.
